Mrs. A. J. Evenson Summoned to Great Beyond After Several Years of Patient Suffering
Miss Nelle Regina Peterson was born in Ihle, Ihlsvaag Norway August 27, 1881, and with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Osmund Peterson came to this country when she was about nine months old. They lived a few years in Illinois, but have since resided in Iowa. She was confirmed by Rev. H. C. Holm in Lake church near Goldfield. On July 28, 1901 at Slater, she was united in marriage to Rev. A. J. Evenson, who now is left to mourn her untimely death. They at once moved to Eureka, Kansas where the pastor had a charge and there they lived happily until nearly three years ago when the dreaded signs of consumption began to appear. In the spring of 1906, they came to Iowa where they had hopes of regaining her health and for a time it seemed as though she was getting better and after staying here ten months they returned to their home at Eureka. There they lived until Aug. 10, 1908, when she became so poorly that Rev. Evenson found it necessary to resign from his charge and move back to Kelley where her parents live, and there nursed her until death claimed her. She passed away contented in her faith in Christ on the morning of Saturday, October 10, 1908 at the age of 27 years, 1 month and 13 days.
Funeral services were held at Slater, Monday morning at which time Rev. S. E. Hanson spoke in Norwegian and Rev. H. J. Holman in English. The remains were then brought to Roland where services were held on Tuesday afternoon at Salem church by Rev. J. N. Sandven, assisted by Rt. Rev. Eastvold of Jewell and Rev. G. O. Paulsrud of Randall. Special singing was rendered by a quartette and by Rev. Sandven. An immense throng was present to pay their last respects to the departed. After the services the remains were laid to rest in the Roland cemetery.
Besides her sorrowing husband and parents she leaves a brother, N. O. Peterson besides numerous friends and relatives to mourn her death. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. Hendrickson and daughter Luella of Hubbard, Miss Magdalina Stenberg of Ellsworth; Miss Selma Peterson of Eureka, Kan., Mesdames Carl Johnson and Sam Swanson of Marshalltown, Mrs. Albert Corey of Colo, Messrs and Mesdames E. J. Evenson and Lars Hill and Mrs. Ole Lewison of Story City; Rev. and Mrs. G. O. Paulsrud and Mrs. D. M. Anderson of Randall, Mesdames H. Lunde, Brit Olson, P. Houge; Severt Houge, Erick O. Ihle, Mr. and Mrs. O. Ihle and Messrs E. N. Ihle, John and Selmer Ihle, of Slater.
