Marjorie Thompson, age 81, a longtime Ellsworth resident, died Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Stratford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stratford, Iowa. Funeral services were held at noon on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the Ellsworth Community Center (school gym) in Ellsworth, Iowa. Visitation was held Saturday one hour prior to services at the community center. A memorial fund has been established for Hamilton County Hospice at 821 Seneca Street in Webster City, Iowa 50595. Becker Funeral and Cremation Service entrusted with arrangements.

Marjorie Dean Helland was born October 9, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Laurel and Dorothy (Purcell) Helland. She grew up in Belmond, Iowa, graduating from Belmond High School. She attended Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. On July 20, 1947, Marjorie married Dale Thompson. Marjorie was a member of the Ellsworth United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary and was a Girl Scout Leader. She loved bowling, fishing, reading, and knitting. Marjorie enjoyed the time spent serving folks in the concession stands for South Hamilton baseball and at the Ellsworth Community Center.

She is survived by her husband, Dale of Stratford; a son, Jim Thompson (and Sue) of Ely, Iowa; a daughter, Peg Thompson (and Mark) of Jewell; grandchildren, Mark (and Dee) Hoefer and Mary Ann Hoefer (and Mike); great grandchildren, Thomas Dylan Hoefer, Christopher Michael Hodge, Harlie Rene Hodge, and Hunter Austin Hodge; a sister, Mary Joye Finn of Evansville, Wisconsin; a brother, David Helland of Rochester, Minnesota; and nieces and nephews.
