Noreen M. Kelly, 78, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2010, at Lenoir Nursing Home in Columbia after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 22, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ewing Funeral Home in Britt, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Patrick’s Church at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Noreen was born on March 29, 1932, in Goodell, Iowa, the daughter of G. Lawrence and Bridget Nolan Smith. She graduated as valedictorian from Britt High School in 1950. She married Joseph R. Kelly on June 19, 1951. She was a devoted wife and mother and loving sister. Noreen enjoyed reading, traveling, quilting, genealogy and spending time with her family. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Columbia.

She is survived by her five children, Kathryn Kelly and husband Frank Musica of Washington, D.C., Mary Shifley and husband Steve of Columbia, Mike Kelly and wife Joan of Lousiville, Ky., Pat Quist and husband Dave of Charlotte, N.C., and Tom Kelly and wife Annemarie Reilly of Baltimore; sisters Barb Detrick and husband Bill of Dakota City, Iowa, Helen Sullivan and husband Mark of Orchard, Iowa, and Berniece Seiler and husband Hank of Marshalltown, Iowa; brothers Chuck Smith and wife Myrna of Perry, Iowa, Joe Smith and wife Nancy of Ames, Iowa, and Steve Smith and wife Chris of Urbandale, Iowa; grandchildren Dan Shifley and wife Maigan, Megan Brown and husband Sterling, Katie Shifley, Anne Shifley, Kate Musica, Claire Musica, Anne Musica, Joe Kelly, Christine Kelly, Tommy Quist, Anna Kelly and Katie Kelly; and great-grandchildren Ava Shifley, Hannah Shifley, Devin Brown and Quinton Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Joe Kelly.
