DOWS, Iowa - Marcelene "Marcy" Jean Jacobsen was born Jan. 27, 1931, on the family farm north of Dows, the daughter of John R. and Caroline (Horstman) Jacobsen. Marcie attended and graduated from Dows High School. She married Russ Braun on Jan. 27, 1950. She moved to Clarion and later returned to Dows to raise her family. After separating from Russ, she moved to Texas where she met Kent Hitt. Eventually she returned to Iowa moving back to Dows to help care for her mother. Be it social hours, a camping outing to Lake Cornelia, a competitive game of darts in one of the leagues she had participated in, or a game of shuffle board, Marcy was always up for some fun and competition.

She had been active in the Pony Express organizations, the Ladies Legion Auxiliary and the Presbyterian Church in Dows. Marcy was truly a kid at heart who looked forward to her favorite holiday of Halloween and the fun it brought to both her and the kids in town as she would go all out with decorations at her home and dress up in costumes. Marcy truly enjoyed to simple things in life whether, it was a day spent in the field bean walking, relaxing on the porch, watching and feeding the birds and squirrels, or the challenge of a wild asparagus hunt. An outing to go antiquing, garage sale shopping, or an excursion to an area thrift shop she looked forward to each and every occasion. Marcy had a fondness in her heart for all animals and truly cherished her pet dogs, cats, and parrots during her life. Marcy had lived on her own in her home in Dows until January of this year when she became a resident of the Care Center in Clarion.
