Phyllis Schrader died April 23, 2010 in the Palliative Care Unit at MeritCare [Fargo, North Dakota] of emphysema and pneumonia.
Phyllis was born January 29, 1925 in Clarion, Iowa to Charles and Beulah Overbaugh. She graduated from the University of Iowa School of nursing in 1947. She worked as an RN at the University of Iowa hospital for two years. Phyllis married Normand Schrader of Rudd, Iowa in 1949. They moved to Fargo where Norm was news director at WDAY and Phyllis was an RN at St. Luke’s hospital for five years. She was a volunteer at Children’s Village, was her son’s Cub Scout leader and her daughter’s Camp Fire Girls leader for many years. After her children started college, Phyllis re-entered the work force at St. Luke’s business office. Phyllis loved gardening and was a self-taught expert on wildflowers of Minnesota. She was an avid camper, hiker and canoeist into her early eighties.
Her husband of 49 years, Norm, died in 1998. She is survived by her son, Scott (Cheryl) Schrader, Mounds View, MN; daughter, Susan, Fargo, ND; sister, Mary Lou Bennett, Hinesville, GA and sister-in-law, Bonnie Day, Romeoville, IL.
Memorial Service: Tuesday, April 27, 2010, 2:00 PM at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.
Visitation: One hour prior to services at Hanson-Runsvold.
Entombment: Riverside Columbarium, Fargo, ND.
