Alvin Harold Stueland, the son of Erick and Mamie Stueland, was born in Eagle Grove, Iowa, on March 2, 1922. He was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Alvin was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1941. On June 26, 1947, Alvin was united in marriage with Helen Marie Folkedahl, at the home of the bride’s mother in Goldfield, Iowa. The couple farmed on the old home place two miles west of Goldfield until 1968, when they retired from farming and bought a home in Goldfield. Alvin worked for Boone Valley in Eagle Grove for 18 years, retiring in 1984. After his marriage, Alvin became a member of the Goldfield United Presbyterian Church and was also a member of the Goldfield Lion’s Club. After retirement, Alvin enjoyed gardening and his travels to California and Wisconsin to visit his granddaughters. He also looked forward to visits with his five great-grandchildren during the last eight years.
Alvin passed away at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion, on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at the age of 88 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen on December 15, 2009; brother, Leonard Stueland and sister, Esther Holck. Survivors include his daughter, Dianne Reichter and husband Arlo of Elm Grove, WI; son, Dennis Stueland and wife Susan of Santa Ana, CA; 4 granddaughters: Kristi Greenfield and husband David, Kari Schneider and husband Jonathan, Sarah Stueland and Laura Stueland; 5 great- grandchildren: Anna and Evan Greenfield and Ethan, Colin and Drew Schneider; “brother-in-law”, Ron Ruiter of Goldfield and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 10, 2010, 11:00 A.M. at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield with Pastor Joyce Garton-Natte officiating. Visitation is Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Goldfield. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family
