November 20, 1958Former Contractor Dies at 82 Years
Funeral services for Gilbert Glendy, 82, who died Thursday, Nov. 13 at Clarion Memorial hospital, were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Eyler Funeral Home. The Rev. R. Lee Parcell, pastor of the Congregational church, conducted the services.
Gilbert A, Glendy was born Jan. 1, 1876 at Branden, Ia. He was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Glendy being the last child of a family of nine children. He was united in marriage on August 30, 1904 to Edna Peile of Rock Rapids. To this union one child, Thomas William, was born and passed away in infancy. In the early years Mr. Glendy operated a planing mill in Clarion. He was the manual training instructor at the Eldora Training school for several years and at the Clarion high school for 15 years. During his lifetime he was the contractor on many of the houses built in Clarion. He assisted in the organization of the first Boy Scout troop in Clarion and served as Scoutmaster. He was secretary of the Modern Woodmen of America for many years. Mr. Glendy was a member of the First Congregational church of Clarion for over 62 years. The end of life upon this earth came on Nov. 13, 1958. Surviving are his wife, a foster son, William English of Clarion and several nieces and nephews.
