Funeral Services for Lyman Shake

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 o'clock at the Eyler Funeral Home with the Eyler Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Robert Blecker, Harold Turk, Tom Turk, Gary Weckerlin, Leland Lunde and Robert Larson. Lyman Gage Shake was born July 8, 1890 In Harrison Township, Knox County, Indiana. He finished country school and two years of high school and attended Vincennes University. He belonged to the Sigma Pi fraternity. He then taught school. As a young man he left Indiana and worked his way to central Iowa, where he did farm and team work. He married Elsie Turk June 1st, 1916 and started farming for himself near Clarion. He farmed several years until poor health made it necessary for him to move to town. He then was a feed salesman and later group sales manager. He also assisted farmers with their livestock problems. He was nominated on the Democratic ticket for County Auditor. He was a man who enjoyed radio and television, speeches, new broadcasts, panel discussions, and was interested in government affairs. He served on the election board several years until poor health required him to retire. He liked to travel, to meet people and enjoyed working out of doors with livestock, machinery and construction work. He was a generous man and enjoyed his family.

Lyman Shake passed away at 12:30 A. M. February 3, 1966, after a lingering illness. He was a member of the First Congregational church. He is survived by his wife, Elsie, his daughter, Mrs. John E. Strever, his granddaughter, Norma Jean Dannen, his grandson, John Robert Strever and 3 great grandchildren. His son, Bernard, preceded him in death, when he gave his life for his country in World War II. He also leaves three brothers, Armon, Bert, and Curtis, who reside in Indiana. Mr. Shake's mother, had preceded him in death by a few weeks. She died January 8 at the age of 96 years.

C. Green of Ames. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Lunde, Hiawatha; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kuchenbaker, Lisbon; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Larson and Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Cupp of Eagle Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Besendorf, Frost, Minn.
