Verda Belle Hunt, 84, of Earlville, Iowa died Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a brief illness. Verda Belle's husband, Virgil E. Sellers, died Monday evening. Please see his obituary.

Funeral services for Verda Belle will be at 10:00 am on Friday, April 14, 2006, at the Earlville United Parish Church with Pastor Ross Wyman officiating. Visitation for Verda Belle and Virgil will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday at Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville, where there will be a 7:00 pm Order of Eastern Star Service and an 8:00 pm Masonic Service. A combined luncheon and fellowship will begin at 11:30 am Friday at the Earlville Community Center. Committal service for Verda Belle will be Fairview Cemetery in Earlville.

Verda Belle was born April 22, 1921 on a farm near Delhi, Iowa, the daughter of Winthrop & Maebelle (Wilson) Keith. The family moved to Earlville in 1932. Verda Belle attended Earlville School, graduating High School in 1938. She worked for three years at the Dr. H. A. Dittmer office and part time at the Highway Commission office. Verda Belle was united in marriage with Clarence W. Hunt, her childhood sweetheart, on November 27, 1941. They operated the family farm near Earlville for 39 years, and moved in to Earlville in 1980. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1991. Clarence passed away December 2, 1991. On June 11, 1995, Verda Belle married Virgil E. Sellers in Earlville, where the couple made their home.

She was a longtime member of the United Church of Christ, serving as a trustee and a member of the parish council. She was church organist for 60 years, and directed the choir for 38 years. She was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, a Past Matron of Acacia Chapter in Earlville and a 22 year organist for Minnehaha Chapter in Colesburg. In 1986, she served the Grand Chapter of Iowa, OES, as Grand Organist. She was also a member of the Hawkeye Links and PAGO. She was a 50 year member of the Outlook Club, serving on County, District, and State levels of the Iowa Federation of Women�s Clubs. For 17 years she was the official organist of the IFWC. She was also a 30 year member of the Proserpina Guild study club. Verda Belle had a great love for music, and shared her talents in many places.

Verda Belle is survived by two children, Carol (Don) Mosier of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Calvin (Sharon) Hunt of Kimberling City, Missouri; two step-daughters, Virginia (Ron) Hovick of Waterloo, Iowa, and Linda (Jim) Singer of Lindstrom, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Kristie, Ken, and Kevin Hunt, Carissa (Lucas) Gillmore, Danielle Mosier, Laurie DeMoss, John (Jyl) DeMoss, and Steve (Shelly) Hovick; and three great- granddaughters, Mackensie, Delaney, and Aynslie DeMoss. Verda Belle was preceded in death by her parents, W. W. & Maebelle Keith; her first husband Clarence Hunt; and her present husband, Virgil Sellers.
