The Renwick Times - Iowa
July 10, 1903

Mrs. Hattie Urion Phipps was born in Hardin county, December 29, 1875, and died at the home of her father, August Urion, at 6 o’clock p.m. July 4th, 1903. She was married in 1897 to Wilbur Phipps of Renwick. Mrs. Phipps had been a constant sufferer from lung trouble for a year or more, having a severe attack of pneumonia last spring and her life was despaired of for weeks, but her unusual amount of vitality brought her through so she was able to be about and walked up town to her mothers almost every day. For the past month she stayed with her parents, as it was necessary for her husband to be away from home most of the time. On Thursday she felt badly and told her brother she would die Saturday, but on Friday walked to her home and back. Saturday she was much worse and her life went out with the setting of the sun. Her death was a shock to all. She possessed a beautiful, cheerful disposition, and was beloved by a host of friends. Early in life she gave her heart to her master and had no fear of the shadows of death. She was ready and willing when the summons came and entreated her relatives not to mourn. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Baptist church, of which she was a member, by Rev. Reinking, who spoke comforting words to her bereaved family. The choir sang her favorite songs, and loving hands decorated the church and her with beautiful flowers she loved so well. Her body was laid to rest in the Luni cemetery. She leaves a loving husband, little Earl and many relatives and friends to muorn her death.
