RENWICK, IA - Funeral service for Grace A. Engstrom will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday [April 7, 2010] at the First Baptist Church in Renwick. Burial will be in Vernon Township Cemetery, rural Hardy. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM Wednesday until time of service at the church.

Grace Arlene Heggen Engstrom was born April 19, 1919 at rural Renwick daughter of O.C. and Ellen (Johnson) Heggen. She graduated from Renwick High School in 1937. Grace married Fred Albert Engstrom Jr. in 1939. They spent their married life on a farm north of Renwick. They were married for 51 years before his death in 1990. Grace grew up and was confirmed in the Lake Lutheran Church, rural Goldfield. After her marriage she became a member of the Renwick Baptist Church. Grace was a very active member of her church most of her life. For many years she took care of the church flowers with many of them being grown at her own home. She and her husband both taught Sunday School and were the leaders of the BYF group. She was also in charge of the White Cross work for the Women's Mission Circle for many years.

Grace A. Engstrom died Sunday, April 4, 2010 at the Rotary Ann Home, Eagle Grove at the age of 90. She is survived by three children, Roger Engstrom and his wife Nilam of Ames, Linda Douglas and her husband Elmer of Tomball, TX, and Galen Engstrom and his wife Dee of Renwick; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Beverly Heggen Gates and her husband Edward "Bud" of rural Goldfield; a sister-in-law, Joan Laird of Storm Lake; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Margaret Lerdal and Eleanor Ashland; and one brother, Charles Heggen. Garry-Roberts-Murphy- Schaaf Funeral Home, Renwick in charge of arrangements.
