CLARION - David LaMoyne Thompson, 56, of Clarion died Friday April 2, 2010 in Blairsburg as a result of a construction accident. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Clarion with Pastor Gary Boen officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ewing Funeral Home 602 N. Main St. in Clarion, Iowa. And will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

David LaMoyne Thompson was born May 13, 1953 in Decorah, Iowa the son of LaMoyne & Edna (Sylvanus) Thompson. David graduated from Thomas Roberts Senior High School in 1971. He attended the University of Northern Iowa for 2 years where he played football. David was united in marriage to Diane Louise Stevens on May 26, 1973. To this union two children were born, Justin and Jessica. The family made their home in Clarion. David owned and operated Thompson Construction for 25 years in Clarion and also owned and operated Thompson Fire Extinguisher Sales & Service for many years. He was most recently employed by Peterson Construction of Webster City. David was a volunteer fireman on the Clarion Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years. He was a training officer for Wright County Search & Rescue Team and also was a fire instructor for many years. David attended many fire schools and had most recently received a Firefighter II certification. He was currently the secretary of Wright County Fireman's Association. David was a member of First Lutheran Church. David's passion in life was his family and firefighting. He adored spending time with his grandchildren and was looking forward to the birth of his third grandchild in October. He enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting, dancing with his wife Diane, and spending time outdoors, snowmobiling and building things in the workshop with his grandson Bryan.

David is survived by his wife; Diane of Clarion; son Justin Thompson, his wife Nikki and Peanut their baby to be born in October of Sioux City; daughter Jessica Sullivan and her husband Randall of Fort Dodge; grandsons Bryan and Rawson Sullivan of Fort Dodge; one brother Michael Thompson and his wife Chris of Decorah; his parents LaMoyne and Edna Thompson of Decorah; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, numerous cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Albert and Leona Thompson; grandparents Fern Sylvanus and William Sylvanus and fathers-in-law Allen Lien and Arlan Stevens. Ewing Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

CLARION - Funeral services will be held Wednesday for a Clarion man who was killed in a accident Friday at a construction site in Blairsburg. Services for David Thompson, 57, Clarion, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at theFirst Lutheran Church in Clarion. Visitation is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Ewing Funeral Home in Clarion. Thompson died shortly after 12 p.m. Friday when a cement block wall that was under construction was blown over by a wind gust, falling on Thompson. He was killed by the impact, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's office. The wall was part of an addition being constructed at the Northeast Hamilton Elementary School in Blairsburg. Thompson was an employee of Peterson Construction, Webster City, one of the contractors on the project. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the State Fire Marshal's office have been contacted to investigate at the scene.
