Anchorage resident Dennis Saathoff, 65, died of natural causes March 27, 2004, at his home. Mr. Saathoff was born July 3, 1938, to John and Beatta Saathoff in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from St. Charles High School on May 30, 1956. He later joined the Army, which brought him to Palmer. He was honorably discharged Feb. 21, 1961. Mr. Saathoff was employed by Anchorage Water and Wastewater until his retirement. In Anchorage he met Karen Julia Seifert and they were married in Faith Lutheran Church on March 30, 1974. They continued to attend Faith Lutheran until their deaths.

Dennis was preceded in death by his wife in 2002. "Karen was his wife, his best friend and his soul mate," his family wrote. "They were married for 28 years before Karen passed on. "Dennis loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His family loved and respected him and will continue to cherish him. He loved working in his gardens, and watching his plants, flowers and vegetables grow. He enjoyed doing for others and was a generous, attentive and dedicated friend. He was loved by all who knew him. He was charitable to those less fortunate than himself."

Mr. Saathoff is survived by his mother, Beatta Saathoff of Minnesota; children and their spouses, Kent and Tamara Saathoff of Wasilla, Denise and Jay Friesen of Missoula, Mont., and Aaron Saathoff of Anchorage; grandchildren, Melissa Wallace and spouse Sonny of Oregon, and Dakota, Jasmine and Bree Friesen of Missoula; great-grandchildren, Summer, Sean and Natalie Wallace of Oregon; brother and sister-in-law, Ted Saathoff and Eileen; sisters and brothers-in-law, Chris and Chuck Grui, Margaret and Bill Heim, and Susan and Tom Kyser; and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements are with Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
