Car Mishap Fatal To Jay Vendelboe
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at Clarion for Jay Vendelboe, 44, who suffered fatal injuries in an auto accident that took place Thursday afternoon of last week nine miles south and two west of Clarion. After emergency treatment at the Clarion hospital, Mr. Vendelboe was transferred Friday to a Mason City hospital, where he died Sunday. He suffered multiple rib fractures, a punctured lung and other internal injuries. According to Sheriff Bob Blecker, the collision of Mr. Vendelboe's car with one driven by Robert McCullough, 28, of Webster City occurred on a gravel road intersection free of obstructions. The Vendelboe car was going west and McCullough was headed north. Both cars were total losses. McCullough's right arm was badly lacerated.
For the past 10 years Mr. Vendelboe had been secretary-treasurer of the Clarion office of the National Farm Loan association. Before that he was Wright county agent for six years. Immediately after graduating from Iowa State college in 1929 he taught school seven years at Garner. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Vendelboe of Harlan; his widow and two daughters; also two sisters.
