Melvin Ronald Rockow

Melvin R. Rockow, 86, Chippewa Falls, Wis., died Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Chippewa Falls. He was born Aug. 28, 1923, at Dows, Iowa, the son of John and Agnes (Lentz) Rockow. He grew up in Dows and moved to the Barron area in 1945. On Sept. 25, 1948, Melvin married Elsie Scheps at Almena. Melvin and Elsie dairy farmed in Almena until 1970. They then moved to Eau Claire and Melvin worked as a custodian at the university, retiring in 1988. In 1989 Melvin and Elsie moved to Barron. The couple moved to Chippewa Falls in 1997. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting in his younger days. He also enjoyed watching wrestling. Melvin was a member at First Lutheran Church, Barron.

Surviving are a son Lee (Pam) of Chippewa Falls; a granddaughter Krystal Stanton; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a sister Donna and brothers Jack and Arnold.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 19, from Rausch and Steel Funeral Home, Barron, with Rev. Bruce Beyer of First Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was held at St. Matthews Cemetery, Almena. Visitation was held 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home Friday.
