Northfield News, MinnesotaMerwin Gene “Bing” Warner, age 72, of Waco, Texas, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, with his loving wife JoAnne at his side. Bing was born May 3, 1937, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, to Kenneth and Opal (Pippin) Warner. He was raised in Iowa Falls and graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1955. After high school he joined the U.S. Air Force. After completing basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, Bing was stationed in Lincoln, Neb., where he met his first wife, Georgean Lutje. They were married July 1, 1956, at the Lincoln Air Force Base. To this union, four children were born. Bing achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant during his ten year Air Force career which took the family to Guam, where they were stationed during the Vietnam War. Following the service, the family made their home in Dows, Iowa, and Windom, Fairbault and Northfield, Minn., where Bing and JoAnne owned and operated J&B Sheetmetal for 9 years. Bing and JoAnne (Reed) were married Sept. 4, 1981, in Faribault. They eventually retired to Waco, Texas, 1996.
Bing is survived by his wife, JoAnne of Waco, Texas; children, Kenneth (Janine) Warner of Willmar, Minn., Denise (Greg) Winters of Windom, Minn., Kimberly (Brad) Powers of Windom, and Daniel (Lori) Warner of Beatrice, Neb.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Sondra (William) Peyton of Iowa Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Opal Warner; and first wife, Georgean.
In accordance with Bing’s wishes, his body has been donated for medical research at the University of Texas. At a later date, there will be a Memorial Marker at Fort Snelling.
