Balzer “Willie” Wilhelm, the son of Joseph and Karoline (Kelsch) Wilhelm, was born on December 19, 1933, in Strasburg, North Dakota. He was educated in the LaMoure County schools. Willie served in the United States Navy from October 31, 1955 until September 30, 1959. He traveled while working for a Younglove Construction, moving to Eagle Grove in 1966. On June 7, 1969, Willie married Pauline M. (Hennigar) Anderson in Eagle Grove. She preceded him in death on August 12, 1981.

Willie passed away on Monday, March 8, 2010, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge, at the age of 76 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Joseph, John, Eusebius, Fred and Tony and sisters: Katherine, Valeria, Theresa and Regina. Survivors include his sisters: Regina Gangl of Saint Anthony, ND, Mary Billman of Centralia, WA, Cecilia Fleck of Bismarck, ND, Caroline Shaffer of Fargo, ND and Bernadine Dickson of Morrilton, AR; step children: Paulette Soppeland and husband Tom of Fort Dodge, Pam Nekvinda and husband Kevin of Kimberling, MO, Brian Anderson and wife Arline of Fort Dodge and Kevin Anderson and wife Paula of Carroll; 7 step grandchildren and 9 step great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove with Father Nils Hernandez, Celebrant. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
