Gladys Laura (Mickey) Cottrell, the daughter of John V. and Bessie I. (Davis) Caskey, was born July 24, 1909, in Madrid, Iowa. The family moved to Boise, Idaho when she was a young girl. Gladys was united in marriage to Vernon E. Tiger on March 28, 1933. They had one daughter, Carol Lesher. They later divorced. On July 1, 1947, Mickey married Roy A. (Dick) Cottrell. They both worked for Albertson’s Food Stores until Dick became a state meat inspector and they moved to Soda Springs, Idaho. Upon retirement the couple had a home in Cascade, Idaho and wintered in Yuma, Arizona and then moved to Kuna, Idaho – Dick’s hometown. Dick preceded her in death on May 17, 2000. Mickey remained in Kuna until August of 2009, after celebrating her 100th birthday. She then moved to the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove, Iowa to be close to her daughter and her family. Mickey loved crafts of all kinds and took up quilting at the age of 80. She was a member of the Kuna United Methodist Church, Kuna Senior Citizens and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mickey passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove, Iowa, at the age of 100 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents and step-father, Rudolph Trager; two brothers and their wives, Ralph and Helen and Glen and Hilda; son-in-law, Orville Lesher and great-grandson, Justin Lesher. Survivors include her daughter, Carol Lesher of Eagle Grove, Iowa; 4 grandsons and their wives: Gary and Regina, Jeff and Jennifer all of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Lon and Carol Jean of Missouri Valley, Iowa and Mike and Debra of Woolstock, Iowa; 8 great-grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010, 1:30 p.m. at the Woolstock United Methodist with Pastor L.J. Hartley officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Kuna Cemetery, Kuna, Idaho.

Mickey Cottrell dies at the age of 100

One of Kuna's most beloved residents has died.
Mickey Cottrell, whose 100th birthday last year was the toast of the town, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove, Iowa, at the age of 100. Mickey turned 100 years old on July 24. The city of Kuna honored Mickey during a regular Kuna City Council meeting in July with a proclamation marking her her birthday. "The community of Kuna has had the honor of Mickey Cottrell as a valued citizen and friend for over 75 years," the proclamation read, in part. A party for Mickey was held July 23 at the home of Ila Stowers, and an open house celebration was held Sunday, July 26, at the Kuna United Methodist Church.

Mickey moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa, in August 2009 to be close to her daughter and her family. Mickey was born July 24, 1909, in Madrid, Iowa, and moved to Idaho at the age of 4. She was married to Dick Cottrell for 55 years. She loved to do crafts, ceramics and quilting and was a member of the County Extension Club for years. She even learned to knit at age 80! She quit driving at 96. For several years, she enjoyed lunch and fellowship with the Kuna and Melba senior centers. She was a member of the Kuna United Methodist Church, Kuna Senior Citizens and the American Legion Auxiliary.
