Oswald M. Haaland, son of S. J. and Karen (Shefveland) Haaland was born on November 24, 1899, in Renwick, Iowa. He was baptized in the Lake Lutheran Church. In 1901, he moved with his parents to Slayton, Minnesota. Later the family moved to the Clarkfield, Minnesota area, where he was confirmed in 1915 by Rev. O. T. Storaasli at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. On January 27, 1925, Oswald married Ida Haugen and to this union one son, Robert, was born. (In 1950 Robert passed away and in 1955 Ida passed away.) After a lifetime of farming in the Clarkfield area, he retired into the town of Clarkfield and later moving to Glenwood, Minnesota, where he married Clara Lee. Oswald passed away at the Minnewaska Home at Starbuck, Minnesota, on June 29, 1987.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ida and wife Clara, son, parents, four brothers, and three sisters. His is survived by two sisters, Clara Cunningham of Bandon, Oregon and Marie Teig of Clarkfield, Minnesota, and one brother, Jewell Haaland of Clarkfield, Minnesota. Also many nieces and nephews.
