Mabel Kuehl, 89, of Heron Lake, Minnesota died April 6, 1999, at the Sogge Good Samaritan Center in Windom. Services were held Saturday at United Methodist Church in Heron Lake with the Rev. Ryan Lord officiating. Special music was provided by Shelley Galle and Jeff Galle. Pallbearers were Dick Smith, Jerome Smith, Larry Smith, John Smith, Greg Sykora, Rodney Smith and Tom Kuehl. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Sykora, Curtis Sykora, Kornell Kuehl, Leonard Holck, Russ McCloud, DuWaine Sykora and Curt Miller. Interment was in the Jeffers Cemetery.

Mabel Luella Sykora, daughter of Charles and Mary (Moreviska) Sykora, was born Feb. 2, 1910, on her parents’ farm north of Westbrook. Mabel grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Following her education, Mabel stayed home and helped around the farm. Mabel married William Holck in 1932. Following their marriage the couple farmed near Westbrook, Renwick, Iowa, and then in the Jeffers area. They moved to Jeffers in 1951 and Mabel worked in a cafe and later was a cook in the school for 20 years. William died in 1974. Mabel married Leonard Kuehl in 1981. Following their marriage the couple lived in Heron Lake. As her health failed, Mabel was cared for by her daughter until she entered the Good Samaritan Center in Windom. Mabel was a member of the United Methodist Church in Heron Lake.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William; three brothers, Elmer, Claude and Vernal; and three sisters, Dorothy Kuehl, Alyce Smith and Ruth Frazee. Survivors include her husband, Leonard, of Windom; her daughter, Mary Ann Holck of Heron Lake; two step-daughters, Ardith (Loren) Voehl of Grand Rapids; and Lorene (Sylvan) Holland of Storden; two sisters, Esther (Lon) Mapes of El Cajon, Calif.; and Jeanette (Wayne) Chaney of Grass Valley, Calif.; two brothers, Clarence Sykora of Marshall and Gerald (Missy) Sykora of Camarillo, Calif.; 9 step-grandchildren; and 14 great-step-grandchildren.
