Fort Dodge Messenger, IowaWEBSTER CITY - Harriett Anderson, 97, of Webster City, IA, died Sunday February 21, 2010 at Crestview Senior Living in Webster City. A funeral service will be held Wednesday 10:30 AM at Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe, IA, Pastor James Zuehls officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 -10 am before the service. Burial in Washington Lutheran Cemetery.
She was born in Thor, IA, to Gunvald and Tillie (Orslund) Swendson on August 11, 1912, and graduated from the Eagle Grove schools. She married William Anderson of Duncombe, IA, in June of 1933. They farmed in the Duncombe, area and celebrated over sixty seven years of marriage.
She is survived by her daughter Norreen Perkins, (Joe) of Des Moines, daughter-in-law, Carol Anderson Eich (Jim) of Fort Dodge, grandchildren, Dennis Perkins (Christine) Des Moines, John Perkins (Stacy) Portland, OR, Mark Folvag (Stacy) Ankeny, Chris Folvag (Joan) Heartland, WI. Jeff Anderson (Christine) Duncombe, Tim Anderson (Kathy) Webster City, Amy Heesch (Jayson) of Dayton, IA, twenty great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Thelma Johnson of California and sister-in-law, Olive Swendson of Eagle Grove. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Harold Folvag, son Clifford Anderson, and brothers, Kenneth and Gerald Swendson.
Harriett was a lifetime member of the Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe. She was active in women's organizations and enjoyed making quilts. She taught Sunday school and played the piano. She enjoyed helping on the farm and working with her husband. She loved flower gardening and was noted for her beautiful iris. She also enjoyed sewing making most of her families clothing. She had a wonderful sense of humor and quick wit which she shared with her extended family at Crestview. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to share in her life.
