CLEAR LAKE, Iowa - Verna L. Ott, 87, of Clear Lake died Monday (Feb. 15, 2010) at Oakwood Care Center. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Inurnment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation with family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel. Memorials may be given to the Verna L. Ott Memorial Fund.

Verna was born March 8, 1922, in rural Kanawha, the daughter of Emil and Anna (Schoenwetter) Pringnitz. She graduated from Garner High School. She worked on the family farm and later at a clothing store in Clear Lake. Verna married Don Ott on Oct. 22, 1947, and to this union four children were born. Verna worked in the cafeteria at the Clear Lake High School and Miller Hardware Store for many years. She enjoyed gardening, canning, woodworking and reading. Verna is survived by her three children, Rick Ott and his wife, Linda, of Clear Lake, Rod Ott and his wife, Barbara, of Clear Lake, and Vickey Ott of Bland, Mo.; two grandchildren, Angela Ott of Lafayette, Ind., and Brady Ott of Clear Lake; one sister, Doris Groesbeck, of Garner; and one brother, Ron Pringnitz and his wife, Marge, of Kanawha; and several nieces and nephews. Verna was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Terry Ott; two sisters, Lois Lange and Merlin Mau; and two brothers, Virgil Pringnitz and Emil "Dutch" Pringnitz Jr. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.
