Services for Ruth Esther Pearson were held on Monday, Feb. 21, at Matheson Community Church in Matheson. The Revs. Charles and Kenneth Hawker officiated and burial was in Simla Cemetery.
Wanda Kocerha, Don Greenstreet, Linda McClelland and Jack Maranville, accompanied by Linda Maranville on the piano, sang "Mansion Over The Hilltop," "Each Step I Take," and "Lord, I'm Coming Home." Casket bearers were Earl Uppendahl, Wes Manville, Alfred Gleck, Jim Greenstreet, Ed Stanko and Don Nikell.
Esther was born March 11, 1905, in Williams, Iowa, and departed this life on Feb 17, 1983, in Colorado Springs. She was the second oldest of seven children born to Benjamin Milo Smith and Ethyl Janette Smith. The family came to Colorado in 1907 and settled on a homestead 16 miles southwest of Limon, where they helped settle the Pleasant Plains community. Esther was married to Clarence Albert Pearson at her parent's home Dec. 25, 1922. There were four children born to this union. She was baptized at the Pleasant Plains Community Church as a young girl and rededicated her life as a Christian in Aurora. After returning to Simla in her later years, she associated with the Matheson Community Church. Esther was a charter member of the Simla Rebekah Lodge #88, having joined during their formation 43 years ago.
She was preceded in death by a brother, George Frederick; a sister, Pauline Lucille Ferree; her parents; her husband, Clarence Albert; and her oldest son, Clarence Benjamin. Survivng her are Mrs. Clarence Pearson of Simla, Ethel May Lamm of Colorado Springs, Albert Lee Pearson of Sterling; Robert Earl Pearson of Aurora; 9 grand children; 13 great grand children; two brothers, Rev. Richard Bailey Smith of Limon, and Rev. John Robert Smith of Del City, OK; two sisters, Helen Elizabeth Benner of Greeley and Cordelia Janet Tullis of Pearsal, Texas; many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Love Funeral Home of Limon handled the arrangements.
