BEN SMITH, EARLY SETTLER, BURIED IN LIMON TUESDAY

Funeral services were held for Benjamin M. Smith, 82, at the Limon Full Gospel Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Duane L. Moody of Goodland, Kansas, and the Rev. Clarence Borchers, pastor of the Limon Church, officiating. Mr. Smith died at Good Samaritan Home in Colorado Springs Friday, Nov. 30. His death was due to pneumonia.

Benjamin Milo Smith was born near Logan, Kansas, Oct 10, 1880, a son of George and Maria Smith. While he was still a child his parents returned to north central Iowa where he grew to manhood. He was married to Ethyl J. Mealio of Byron, Ill. Oct 8, 1902. The Smiths farmed near Williams, Iowa until 1907, when they came to Colorado and took a homestead 18 miles southwest of Limon. They farmed there for more than 20 years, moving to Limon in 1928, where he made his home until the past few months. When they moved to the area southwest of Limon they helped to found the Pleasant Plains church, and after moving to Limon they joined and faithfully supported the Limon Full Gospel Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ethyl; three daughters, Mrs. Esther Pearson, Denver, and Mrs. Helen Benner, Keota, and Mrs. Cordelia Tullis, Omaha, Neb.; and two sons, Richard of Woodland Park, and John of Colona, Ill. He is also survived by 25 grand children, and a number of great grand children.

At the funeral, Mrs. Eleanor Moody accompanied by Mrs. Ruby Borchers at the piano, sang "Good Night and Good Morning" and "I'll Meet You In The Morning". Casket bearers were Harold Hendrix, Emmett Nall, Virgil Westphal, Wayne Kissel, David Akers and Willard Nordick. Honorary casket bearers were Frank Lauderman, Frank Manuwal, George Nicks, E. D. Hager, Claude Hendrix, and Amos Goodwin. Burial was in Pershing Memorial Cemetery, in Limon with the Buchanan Funeral Home of Limon in charge of all arrangements.
