Hughes Herbert Johnson

H. H. Johnson died at his residence in this city last Friday afternoon. Few men were better known in Hamilton county, than H.H. Johnson. When he first came to the county he started a paper at Williams, which was successfully carried on until he was elected superintendent of schools, which office he held for four years. His health has always been poor, but exceedingly so for the past five years and it has been a matter or surprise to his many friends that he has survived so long. No man can estimate the suffering he has endured because he was always very patient, and little given to talking of his difficulties in public. No man ever held a larger share of public esteem in this community than he, and his death, though not unexpected, caused deep sorrow in the whole community. All that human help and loving tenderness could do, was done to alleviate his sufferings, and his brother Frank was here making arrangements to take him to the milder climate of the south, when death claimed him for his own. He leaves a wife and two small children to mourn his loss. The funeral services conducted by Rev. Sanderson, took place from his late residence and he was interred in our beautiful cemetery on last Sunday afternoon.
