NORMA JEAN HOOD, 79 LOVING WIFE, MOTHER, MOTHER-IN-LAW, GRANDMOTHER, GREAT-GRANDMA, SISTER, SISTER-IN-LAW AND FRIEND MACHESNEY PARK
Norma Jean Hood, 79, of Machesney Park died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, after a short battle with lung cancer. Born Aug. 8, 1930, in Dows, Iowa, daughter of Clarence (stepmother, Rose Burke) and Mary Richards. Married Bill Hood on June 24, 1950, in Rockford; he died in 2004. She worked for Roper Whitney Co., Rockford. Member of the Auxiliary Club of the Roscoe VFW. Norma loved to cook, talk on the phone, go to lunch with her friends, and all types of music. Survivors include sons, Gene Hood of Machesney Park and Steve (Sharon) Hood of Roscoe; grandchildren, Chad and Sarah Hood, Brent (Tracy) Hood, Denise and Brian Hood; six great- grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Deb Hood of Venice, Fla.; sisters, Bea (Jack) Burt of Rowan, Iowa, Joyce Mason of Apple Valley, Calif., and JoAn Olson of Clarion, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased also by her parents, and son, Doug. Service at noon Saturday, Feb. 13, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave., with visitation from 10:30 a.m. to time of service. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family for a fund to be established.
