NILES, Ill. - Shirley Rose Mennig (nee Brazee) was born on April 16, 1941 in Corwith to George and Mary (Shea) Brazee. Shirley succumbed to ovarian cancer on Jan. 8, 2010. She was raised in the Goldfield-Eagle Grove, area and graduated from Goldfield High School in 1959. On May 28, 1960 she married James Mennig and moved to the Chicago area. To this union was born a son Steven (Linda) of Carol Stream, IL and a daughter Vicki Rassett of Ingleside, IL. She worked in the Medical Records Department of Advocate Lutheran General Hospital for the past 29 years. She loved Nascar (Jeff Gordon), the color pink, State of Iowa, being there for others and especially her grandchildren and great grandson. She is survived by her husband, son, daughter, grandchildren Jessica and Jason and great-grandson Carson with two more great-grandchildren due in August. Also, her brother Raymond Brazee of Winterset, her sister Marilyn Flogstad of Omaha, Neb., and twin sister Sharon Weiss of DeSoto. She was preceded by her parents and sister Margaret Slaughter. Shirley will be going home to Iowa for a family service in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local food pantry. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Illinois.
