MASON CITY, IA – Alberta M. Rheingans, 73 of Mason City died Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Friday at Faith Baptist Church, 1807 South Kentucky Avenue with Rev. Miles Grismore officiating. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM on Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue and one hour prior to service time at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa or Faith Baptist Church.
Alberta was born April 17, 1932 in Mason City the daughter of Uel Berton and Dorothy (Sells) Howe in Mason City. She attended school in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School. Alberta was united in marriage to William Edward Rheingans on March 22, 1951 in Mason City. She worked as a nurse’s aide for many years at the hospital in Mason City. Alberta was a lifelong resident of Mason City and was a member of Faith Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing, puzzles and crocheting afghans for her family. Alberta’s pride and joy was her family and she loved to help care for her grandchildren. She was also known as the “cookie lady” in Belmond. Survivors include: Roger Rheingans and wife Nancy of Kasson, Minnesota, Susan Buehler and husband John of Mason City, Jody Gobeli and husband James of Belmond, Kathy Martin and husband Kim of Mason City, James Rheingans and wife Ann of Forest City; grandchildren, Daniel Rheingans of Chariton, Sarah Mason and husband Talley of Rochester, Minnesota, Tina Miller and husband Scott of Mason City, Holly Buehler of Mason City, Lance Gobeli and wife Tammy of Belmond, Jennifer Gobeli also of Belmond, William Martin of Mason City, Katherine and Jennifer Martin both of Spanaway, Washington, and Steven Blau and Cordell Rheingans both of Forest City. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Tatin Jo Sorensen, Kaylee and Jacob Miller, Brandon and Zachary Withers; sisters, Hazel Leaman and Mary Sable both of Mason City; many nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, CoCo. Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, husband William Edward Rheingans, brother Melvin Howe and sister, Mildred Prohaski and grandson, Michael Dale Gobeli. Major Erickson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
