Gladys M. “Dolly” Thompson, 79, of 924 Bertch Avenue died on Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at Covenant Medical Center from complications of Emphysema. She was born on July 26, 1925 in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Herman Haldor and Boletta (Bondhus) Heggebo. Her parent’s Norwegian Heritage played a special part in her life. They immigrated to America from Norway. Dolly married Robert Boston in 1943. He died in WWII in Italy in 1945. She then married Merle Thompson in 1947. They were later divorced. She was a member of the Gold Star Wives of America and Waterloo VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Dolly is survived by three daughters, Kathlyn Dettmer of Waterloo, Mary Koehler and her husband Steve of Winona, MN, and Jollene Slater and her husband Chuck of Waterloo; two sons, Kevin Thompson of Waterloo and David Thompson and his wife Patrice of Milan, IL; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brother Lawrence Heggebo and his wife Florence of Waterloo. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Robert Heggebo and Marvin Heggebo.
