HUMBOLDT, Iowa - Funeral services will be held Monday, December 7, 2009, 10:30 a.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Goldfield with Rev. Jan Burnett of Faith United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Goldfield. Burial will be in East Ullensvang Cemetery in Thor.

Orville Carl Anderson, the son of Martin and Margaret (Hansen) Anderson, was born March 4, 1919, in Thor, Iowa. Orville passed away on Friday, December 4, 2009, at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt, at the age of 90 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathryn (Mc Burney); brothers, Donald Anderson of Humboldt and Marvin Anderson of Renwick. Survivors include his daughters: Dianne Spangler and Merry Conaway (Robert) of Eagle Grove and Kathy Rice (Daniel) of Mound, MN; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a very special friend, Dixie Long. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Humboldt – Orville Anderson

Orville Carl Anderson, the son of Martin and Margaret (Hansen) Anderson, was born March 4, 1919, in Thor, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Thor High School in 1938. After graduation, Orville served in the United States Navy as a Sea Bee, honorably discharged in 1945, after serving 42 months and 16 days on the Pacific. Orville married Betty Peterson of Thor. Orville was employed after the war in the construction business. He then farmed in Humboldt County until 1952, when he relocated to St. Louis Park, MN and was employed as a Sales Rep for Snap-On Tools. Orville returned to dairy farming in Carver County, MN until 1960, then relocated back to Humboldt County and sold for International Machinery of Fulda, MN.

Orville married his second wife, Kathryn Mc Burney of Humboldt in 1961, and the couple moved to West Concord, MN and farmed there until returning to Humboldt. He farmed and then became employed as a custodian for the Humboldt School System, retiring in 1983. Orville was a member of the United States Trotting Association, Iowa Horse Racing Association, American Legion, Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, Humboldt Senior Citizens, Faith United Methodist Church and was also a proud past member of the Thor Cardinals baseball team. Orville enjoyed card playing and taught Bridge to many at the Senior Center. He was a fan of all sports, especially Iowa College sports. He was also well known around the Iowa Harness Racing circuit. Orville was a great story teller and always had a word of cheer to everyone he met.
