Hazel L. Dencklau, 87, of Fort Dodge passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009 at Tompkins Memorial Health Center in Fort Dodge. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Vincent with the Reverend William VanNostrand officiating. Burial will follow at the Colfax Township Cemetery, rural Vincent. The visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Hazel was born in Pleasantville, Iowa on March 17, 1922 to William and Mary (Ferber) Nolte. She grew up in the Lacona area where she attended school. She married Eugene Dencklau on Jan. 4, 1942 in Lacona, they made their home in the Vincent area where they farmed until retiring in 1986. Eugene died in 1992 and Hazel moved to Fort Dodge in 1997. She then moved to Friendship Haven in 2006. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Vincent and the L.W.M.L. and the L.L.L. She enjoyed quilting and shared this love with many family members and friends.

Hazel is survived by her son Larry (Linda) Dencklau; grandchildren Amy Stradtmann, L. Scott Dencklau and Katie Newman; great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Cole, Payton, Adam, Chase and a sixth great-grandchild due in February. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene; sisters; Wilma Lancaster, Marie Kinne, Evalena Kinne and infant sister Ruth; brothers Glen Nolte, Pearl Nolte and Floyd Nolte. Memorials may be left to the family for their further discretion.
