HARDY - LeRoy Eugene Thompson, rural Hardy, passed from this life on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was 92. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Renwick, with Pastor Lynn Noel officating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy Schaaf Funeral Home, Renwick.

LeRoy Eugene Thompson was born on Dec. 29, 1916, on a farm near Eagle Grove, Iowa to Lars and Blanche (Biondahl) Thompson. He received his education in the country school system. On July 22, 1938, LeRoy was married to Grace Izel Egemo at Badger, Iowa. To this union, 13 children were born. LeRoy farmed in the Renwick and Hardy area for over 70 years. He had a corn shelling business for several years. LeRoy enjoyed working and repairing his cars and pickups. He also had rental houses in Eagle Grove, Fort Dodge and Renwick that he enjoyed working on. He also participated in tractor pulls, his sons' 4-H projects and had a cabin in Park Rapids, Minn. that the family enjoyed. LeRoy was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick.

Surviving are his children, Roger Thompson and wife, Lois, Goldfield, Iowa, Donna Cameron and husband, Larry, Nevada, Iowa, Marvin Thompson and wife, Janet, Renwick, Iowa, Bonnie Welter and husband, Delmar, Renwick, Iowa, Darlene Egesdal and husband, John, Reinbeck, Iowa, Rick Thompson and wife, Jan, Renwick, Iowa, Dale Thompson and wife, Roxanne, Ames, Iowa, David Thompson and wife, Marcia, Badger, Iowa, Danny Thompson and wife, Chris, Goldfield, Iowa, Douglas Thompson and wife, Jane, Blue Springs, Missouri, Mark Thompson and wife, Tammy, Lidderdale, Iowa and Greg Thompson and wife, Allyson, Renwick, Iowa. Also surviving are 36 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; his sister, Bernette Smith, Eagle Grove, Iowa; and his sisters-in-law, Marge Thompson, Carlisle, Iowa and Wilma Thompson, Eagle Grove, Iowa. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Grace; son Larry, grandson, Shawn Thompson; brothers, Palmer, Earl and Omer; and sister, Bernice Nelson.
