GOLDFIELD - A funeral service for Robert A. 'Bob' Nelson, 85, of Goldfield, formerly of Renwick, was held Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Renwick with Dale Schoening officiating. He died Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at Careage of Clarion. Interment followed at Elmwood Cemetery in Renwick. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Robert A. "Bob" Nelson was born July 22, 1924, in Wisconsin, the son of Albert and Emma (Nelsen) Nelson. As a young boy he moved with his family to the Renwick area where he grew up. Bob attended and later graduated from Vernon Consolidated High School. After his schooling he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Renwick. On July 29, 1945, Robert was united in marriage to Grace Baumgartner in Renwick. After their marriage the couple lived on a farm near Renwick. Bob farmed most of his life, but for three years did manage Custom Farm Services in Goldfield. After retiring in 1989, the couple continued living on the farm until moving to Goldfield in 2000. Bob enjoyed woodworking, fishing and playing golf. He served on the elevator board, the Humboldt County Conservation Board and was a member of the Izaak Walton League and the American Legion. Bob was a member of the United Methodist Church in Renwick where in the past he had served as Treasurer. Bob died Friday, October 2, 2009, at Careage of Clarion in Clarion, Iowa. He was 85.

He is survived by his wife, Grace of Goldfield; sons, Bruce and Cyndie Nelson of Glendale, AZ; Larry and MaryJo Nelson of Woodward; grandchildren, Kristine Andersen of San Diego, CA; Michelle and Eric Schlichte of Cedar Rapids; Brian and Jennifer Nelson of Phoenix, AZ; Kathrine and Mike Zwanziger of Gilbert, AZ; three great-grandchildren; sister, Gladys and Willard Gisel of Ventura; brother, Richard Nelson of Humboldt and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Shelby Nelson and a grandson, Robert Nelson.
