Dr. Nathaniel R. "Doc" Waggoner, 90, of Metamora, Ill., formerly of Olin, died Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 24, 2004, in Snyder Village, Metamora, after an illness. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Tremont United Methodist Church, Tremont, Ill., where friends may call from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Wesley Wilkey will officiate. His body will be cremated after the service. Private burial of cremains will be at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery, Popejoy Iowa . Arrangements with Davis Mortuary, Tremont, Ill.
Survivors include three sons, Gary of Longmont, Colo., Curtis of Rock Falls, Ill., and Dennis of Germantown Hills, Ill. Also surviving are three daughters-in-law, Wanda, Kaye and Terri; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and an infant sister. Born June 19, 1913, in Iowa Falls, Iowa , the son of Joseph and Sadie Martin Moore Waggoner, he married Glenda M. McElvania on Feb. 4, 1939, in Mason City. She died Sept. 26, 2002. He graduated from high school in Iowa Falls and from Iowa State University in 1941 with a DVM degree. He was an honorary member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and several local veterinary associations. He was a member and past master of Ancient Landmark Masonic Lodge in Olin and the Mohammed Shrine in Peoria, Ill. Doc practiced in Olin from 1941 to 1965. He then moved to Tremont, Ill., and became the Tazewell County veterinarian for 10 years until retiring in 1975. He had lived at Snyder Village in Metamora for the past 18 months. Memorials may be made to the Tremont Public Library or Emergency "116" in Metamora, Ill.
