RENWICK - Arleene J. Zimmerman, 88, of Renwick, died Sunday (Sept. 27, 2009) at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Renwick, with the Rev. Dale Schoening officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Township Cemetery in rural Hardy, with military honors. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Renwick.

Arleene Jeanne Zimmerman was born on July 24, 1921, near Union, Iowa to Charles and Polly Gorham Mitchell. She graduated from the Eldora High School, Eldora, Iowa. After her schooling, Arleene served her country during World War II in the United States Marine Corps from 1944-1946. After her Honorable Discharge from the service, Arleene worked for a Physician in Eldora and also worked at her mom’s restaurant in Eldora. Arleene was married to Earl Zimmerman on February 21, 1954, at Alden, Iowa. The couple moved to rural Goldfield, Iowa, where they farmed the Zimmerman family farm. Her husband, Earl preceded her in death on December 19, 1999. Arleene then moved into Renwick. Arleene was an active member of the Renwick United Methodist Church, where she also taught Sunday School for many years. She loved to golf and belonged to the Oakridge Golf Course in Goldfield. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards and having coffee with her friends at the local convenience store. She especially loved her children, grandchildren and was very thrilled when her great grandson was born.

Arleene became a resident of the North Care Center in Humboldt, Iowa in April of 2009. She died on Sunday, September 27, 2009, at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt, Iowa. Arleene was 88. Surviving are her sons, Randy Zimmerman and wife, Cheri, Humboldt, Iowa and Rick Zimmerman, Renwick, Iowa. Also surviving are her grandchildren and great grandson, Justin Zimmerman and wife, Sarah and their son, Jordan, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Jenna Zimmerman, LuVerne, Iowa. She is also survived by her twin sister, Arlah Johnson, Eldora, Iowa, her other sister, Margaret, Stuart, Iowa and her brother, Richard Mitchell and wife, Judy, Eldora, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Earl, her sister Mary Mitchell and 3 brothers, Bob, John and Charles Mitchell.
