Edwin Hanson "Ed" --Passed away on August 29, 2009 at the age of 96. He was born in Goldfield, Iowa and was the seventh child of Danish parents, Hans and Kay Hanson. Ed was very proud of his Danish Ancestry. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Hope; daughter, Susie and son-in-law, Alex Bantis; grandson Chris Baker; daughter-in-law, Jana and three great-great-grandsons, Gavin (12), Colin (10) and Simon (five). Ed graduated from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. For 35 years, he worked as a Manager for General Electric. Upon completing his initial training in Pittsfield, MA, he and Hope moved to Berkeley and worked at both the San Francisco and Oakland offices. The last five years of his career were spent working for GE in Hickory, NC. GE honored him with a Managerial Award which is the highest form of individual recognition that the company provides. Ed and Hope loved to travel. They visited all the National Parks in the US, Canada, Europe, Japan and China. They also enjoyed going on golf trips to Hawaii with friends and outings with Elder Hostels. Upon his retirement in 1976, Ed and Hope moved to Oakmont. His greatest joy was playing golf with the Oakmont Golf Association's (OGC) Men's group. Ed was a past Board Member of the OGC. He will be remembered for his life long enthusiasm for the game of golf. Given all his resources, time and talent, Ed was an extremely generous man especially when it came to his family and friends. A joyous celebration of Ed's life will be held Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 3:30 p.m. in the Activity Room at Oakmont Gardens, 201 White Oak Dr, Santa Rosa. If desired, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Tribute Fund in memory of Ed Hanson at the Oakmont Golf Club, 557 Oak Vista Ct, Santa Rosa, CA 95409. Please include Ed's name in the memo on your donation check. Funds collected will be allocated to a beautiful engraved bench that will be placed at one of the Oakmont Golf Courses.
