Ellen Watland, 94, of Inwood, died Sunday, August 2, 2009 at Fellowship Village, Inwood. Funeral Service will be 1:30 pm, Saturday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, rural Inwood. Burial at Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery. Rev. John Wolf will be officiating. Visitation will be Friday with the family present 5-6:30 pm at Porter Funeral Home, Inwood. Memorials may be directed to Fellowship Village or Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Ellen Aukland was born March 18, 1915 in Stavanger, Norway, daughter of Ola and Bertha (Johnson) Aukland. When Ellen was 8 years old, the family came to America to the Goldfield, IA area. Ellen married Lawrence Watland on June 17, 1941 in Eagle Grove, IA. After Lawrence served in the U.S. Army (1942-5), Ellen and Lawrence lived on a farm west of Inwood where they raised their family and were active members of Our Savio’rs Lutheran Church and Sons of Norway. Lawrence died November 11, 1987. Ellen especially enjoyed her family, serving others, cooking, gardening, and reading. She moved to Inwood in 1996 and Fellowship Village on January 12, 2009.

Surviving relatives include 3 daughters: Phyllis Englerth of LaCrosse, WI, Jane (Wayne) Wierson of Ames, IA, Mary (David) Hage of Inwood; 1 son, Paul (Peggy) Watland of Twin Falls, ID; 10 grandchildren: Kevin (Ginny) Kelling of Grand Rapids, MI, Tim (Lisa) Kelling of Saratoga Springs, NY, Trevor Wierson of Seattle, WA, Niki (Jon) Vansice of Whidbey Island, WA, Brittany Wierson of Ames, IA, Saul (Kelly) Hage of Sioux Falls, SD, Rachel (Greg) Roebuck of Seattle, WA, Katie (Andy) Ford, Ben (Katelyn) Watland and Dan Watland all of Boise, ID; 4 great-grandchildren: Samson Kelling, Lauren, Ella and Eli Hage; 4 step-grandchildren; 8 step-great-grandchildren; brother, Lee Aukland of Athol, ID; sisters-in-law: Helen Aukland of Fulda, MN, Agnes (Vernon) Kahl of Inwood; many nieces and nephews. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents Ola and Bertha; husband, Lawrence; 3 brothers: Gudmund, Tommy and John Aukland; sister, Bea Hamborg; son-in-law, John Englerth.
