Helen M. Sampson, 89, of Aplington IA died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo IA. Helen was born December 5, 1913, in Forrest IL the daughter of Herman Frederick and Elizabeth Gredina (Huisman) Beck. She graduated from Drummond High School in Drummond WI. She also attended vocational school in Superior WI. She worked as an Assistant Postmaster for 9 years in Drummond WI from 1933-1942. On March 1, 1947, she was united in marriage to Sanford Sampson in Ashland WI. Helen then worked as a bookkeeper at Benoit Coop Creamery in Benoit WI where Sanford was the Coop Manager. Helen was an artist. She especially enjoyed painting pictures of wildlife. She was commissioned to paint many pictures. She even painted pictures that were auctioned off at Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever banquets. Helen was also an entertainer who played the organ. She would entertain at various parties. She especially enjoyed Lawrence Welk Music. Helen was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center IA.

Survivors include her brother-in-law, Raymond Darwin of Zephyrhills FL; 2 nieces, Karen Darwin Robert of Kerrville, TX and Kathy Darwin Jackson of Lone Pine, CA; 4 nephews, Gerald Peterson of Stillwater, MN; Roy Peterson of Shell Lake WI, Kenny Darwin of East Lansing, MI, and Keith Darwin of Ferrisburg, VT. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Sanford on January 13, 2002, and her one sibling, a sister, Marjorie Darwin in 1982.
