March 10, 1836 --- September 9, 1910

Mikkel Kirkeberg was born at Valdres, Norway, March tenth, 1836, where he grew to manhood; the youngest of a family of twelve children: and was united in marriage to Miss Maria Kvale July 15th. 1861, to whom thirteen children have been born; seven of whom are now living being: K. C. Kirkeberg of Thor; Mrs. Mary Prehm of Eagle Grove; John and Carl of Edmonton, Canada; Dena (Mrs. H. C. Olson) of this town, Ed and Miss Anna, still at home: The faithful wife with these children being left to mourn the loss of and cherish the memory of a husband and father who was always a worthy friend, careful member of the family and true to every social trust or moral obligation. In 1867 the family emigrated to America, locating in Clayton county where they resided until 1873 when they came to Humboldt county, buying a farm in Norway township, which continued to be the family home until four years ago when, the infirmities of advancing years suggested the necessity of a change of climate; the farm was sold and he went to Colorado, where he stayed a short time. Not getting the desired help from the change, he returned to Iowa, buying a home in Bode where he resided until the time of his death, Friday, Sept 10th. 1910, aged 73 years, 5 months and 29 days. The earthly remains were taken to Rutland by team, from there to Thor by train and buried in the cemetery there, services being conducted by Rev. J. L. Jorgenson of this place in the Norwegian language and by Rev. Haetenes, of Thor, in English, on Monday of this week. To the afflicted ones we as a community extend all we can give and all that they could receive, our sympathy in their irreparable loss.

****
Mikkel Kirkeberg died September 9, 1910 at his home at Bode, Iowa 73 1/2 years old. His mortal remains were brought by horselift to Rutland and from there by train to Thor, where the funeral took place Monday, September 12. The Vicar Mr. J. S. Jorgensen from Bode officiated in the Norwegian language and the Vicar Mr. Hestenes from Thor in English.

Mikkel Kirkeberg was born in Valdres, Norway on March 10, 1836, the youngest of 12 children. In 1861, at the same place, he married Maria Kvale, and during their marriage they have had 13 children, whereof only 7 are alive now. The family emigrated to U.S.A. in 1867 and settled down in Clayton County, Iowa, where they lived until 1873 when they arrived in Humboldt County and bought a farm at Norway Township. Here Mr. Kirkeberg lived until 4 years ago. Because of an increasing weakness he then decided to move to another climate and lived for a short time in Colorado [probably Longmont]. As this change did not bring the wanted effect, he moved back to Iowa, bought a home at Bode, where he lived until his death. Besides the 7 children, of whom 2 are still at home, the deceased leaves his aging partner."
