ROCKWELL CITY, IA - Linda Johnson, 57, of Rockwell City, died Thursday, August 27, 2009 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Gunderson Funeral Chapel with Rev. Randy Williamson of Sparta, Wisconsin officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.

Linda Sue Carlson was born April 24, 1952 to Marvin Leroy Carlson and Viola Lilyard Carlson. She grew up on a farm in rural Harcourt and attended school in Harcourt and Burnside. She graduated from Central Webster High School in 1970. She graduated from Burnell's College of Cosmetology in 1971 and worked as a cosmetologist in Harcourt, Fort Dodge, Woolstock and Rockwell City. In 1996, she changed careers and became the church office manager for New Covenant Christian Church where she worked until her early retirement in 2006. She married Norman H. Johnson on June 2, 1973. They made their home in Woolstock until 1976, when they moved to rural Rockwell City, where they lived until her death. Linda loved living in the country and over the years made her acreage a virtual paradise with rock gardens, flower beds, trees and landscaping. She also loved home decorating and practiced the art in her home. She was a woman of faith and always gave credit to God, rather than medicine, for keeping her alive. She fought a long battle with cancer, being first diagnosed in 1974. Over the year she received compassionate care and support from family, friends, and many medical professionals and doctors. Her testimony was always that God sustained her and she would not leave this world until He was ready.

She is survived by her husband Norman of Rockwell City, her son Joshua (Brandi) Johnson, 3 grandsons and 3 granddaughters of Humboldt, her brother Donald Carlson of Bristow, VA, a sister Beverly Olofson of Boone, IA, and her aunt Verna Urelius of Dayton. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
