Elderly Edgerton Resident Dies

Mr. Wubbo Brouwer, 95, a long time resident of this community and of Edgerton since 1944, passed away Tuesday morning, May 8, at the Pipestone Hospital following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton with the Rev. Peter Brouwer in charge. Interment was in the Edgerton Hillside Cemetery.

Relatives who came from a distance to attend the funeral of Wubbo Brouwer included Wayne Brouwer of Mitchell, SD, Wayne and Audrey Veldhuizen of Boone, IA, Carroll Westenburg of Farmington, MN, Bob and Linda Westenberg and sons, Ricky and David of Edina, MN, Kelli Bauer and son, Kane of Farmington, several nieces and nephews of Kanawha and Britt, IA and Clarence and Lena Brouwer of Modesto, CA.

Funeral services for Wubbo Brouwer of Edgerton, MN, were held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 11, 1984, from the First Christian Reformed Church at Edgerton with the Rev. Peter Brouwer officiating. The organist was Celia Van Essen. The hymn, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" was sung. The pallbearers were Larry Kleinjan, Robert Westenburg, Wayne Brouwer, Larry Brouwer, Carroll Westenberg, and Wayne Veldhuizen. Interment was in the Edgerton Hillside Cemetery.

Mr. Brouwer was born on Feb. 18, 1889 in Oudschans, The Netherlands. He was 95 years, 2 months and 18 days at the time of his death. He was the son of Filipus and Martha Brouwer and came to America at 17 years of age and settled in Wright County, near Kanawha, Iowa.

He was married to Tena Christians on July 21, 1911. He moved to Minnesota in 1918 where he farmed until 1944 and came to Edgerton where he had been residing until his death. He was a member of the 1st Christian Reformed Church. He is survived by his two sons: Anno of Pipestone, Clarence of Modesto, CA., three daughters: Martha Westenberg, Edgerton, Tena Stiltner, Bellflower, CA., Betty Blackmon, Riverside, CA; also two brothers in the Netherlands. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Tena in 1978, two sisters, two brothers, one daughter, Nancy Kleinjan of Edgerton in 1981, and a grandson, Leroy Brouwer of Corvallis, OR. in July, 1980.
