Mason City Globe Gazette -- IowaKANAWHA - Eleanor A. Abbas, 74, died at the Community Memorial Hospital, Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, with the Rev. G. David Daley officiating. Burial will take place at Amsterdam Township Cemetery, Kanawha. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home, Kanawha, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Eleanor was born Feb. 23, 1924, at Goodell. She is survived by her husband, Donald Abbas, Kanawha; a daughter, Lois Ann Mouw, Sioux Center; a son, Darl Abbas, Kanawha; a brother Merle Ruka, Belmond; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Eleanor Arlene Abbas, 74, passed away June 11, 1998, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion, Iowa.Eleanor, the daughter of Arthur and Florence Thompson Ruka, was born February 23, 1924, in Goodell, Iowa. She attended country school in Goodell and graduates from the Belmond High School in 1942. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College. Eleanor taught country schools in Goodell and Kanawha. On April 10, 1948, she was united in marriage with Donald Abbas in Goodell, Iowa. The couple made their home in the Kanawha/Britt area, where they farmed until retirement. They then moved to Kanawha. Eleanor enjoyed writing letters and poetry. She lived through her family. Eleanor was an active member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church. She loved spreading God's word, by continually guiding and encouraging others. The Bible was her strength.
Eleanor is survived by her husband, Donald; her daughter: Lois Ann Mouw and her husband, Glen of Sioux Center, Iowa; her son: Darl and his wife, Paula of Kanawha; five grandchildren: Jason & Angela Abbas, Jeremy & Sara Abbas, Ryan & Valorie Zonnefield, Daniel Mouw and Stephanie Mouw; a brother: Merle Ruka and his wife, Marguerite of Belmond; an aunt: Ethyl Thompson of Belmond, and numerous other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lyle.
