Helen McClernon Frandsen returned to the arms of her Lord on Sunday, November 9, 2003. Helen was born in Belmond, IA on September 14, 1921. Her family moved to Streator, IL when she was a young child. Helen was one of two daughters and five sons born to Joseph and Annie (Noonan) McClernon. Helen graduated from Streator High School in 1939 and from Illinois State University in 1943. Helen married her beloved husband Robert (Bob) Frandsen on April 26, 1945. They had three sons, Robert Berten, Jr. (married to Sandy Sherwood) of Tomah, WI; Christian Allyn, of Phoenix and Bruce Raymond (married to Vickey Smith). Helen, Bob, Chris, and Bruce moved from Joliet, IL to Phoenix in 1968. Bob Jr. was a Marine serving in Vietnam at the time. Helen attended St. Jerome's Catholic Parrish for over 30 years and was active in a number of church organizations. In addition, Helen volunteered with the St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary as well as numerous other community organizations. Helen served as a substitute teacher with Glendale Union High School District for many years. She endeared herself to numerous students & staff who maintained friendships over the years. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and four brothers. She is survived by her three sons, her sister Loretta McClernon, of Phoenix, her brother Raymond of Lee's Summit, MO four grandchildren: James of Tomah, WI Charles of La Crosse, WI Bruce Raymond, Jr. of Westland, MI and Alaina Frandsen of Westland, MI. Helen dearly treasured her Family, her Friends and her Faith. Her inspirational spirit, guiding wisdom, and perpetual & radiant smile will continue to bless us throughout the rest of our lives! A visitation will be held at Hansen's Mortuary, 8314 N. 7th St., Phoenix on Thursday from 6-8PM with a rosary service at 7PM. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Jerome's Catholic Church, 10815 N. 35th Ave., Phoenix on Friday at 10AM. Burial will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Because of Helen's devotion to children & education, a scholarship fund will be established in her name. Contributions to this fund in lieu of flowers will be appreciated.
