Leroy D. Dencklau, 81, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2007, at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 14, at 10:30AM in the chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Van Nostrand, St. John?s Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Colfax Cemetery near Vincent. Friends may call from 4:00PM until 8:00PM on Tuesday at the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife Darlene; daughter, Christine (Harry) Wood of Des Moines; sons, Jerry (Marion) Dencklau of Thor, William (Luann) Dencklau of Dakota City, and Joel (Jan) Dencklau of Thor; step-son, Randy (Lynn) Tjarks of Fort Dodge; step-daughter, Lori (Bob) Staley of Waukee; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 8 step-grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren; brothers, Allen, Dale, and Merlie of Vincent, Delbert of Fort Dodge, Donnie of Humboldt, and Earl of Duncombe; sisters, LuVerna Wilson and Betty Anderson of Duncombe, Joan Adson of Vincent, and Jane Konvalinka of Harcourt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Alfreda (Koester) Dencklau; brothers, Harold, Delmer, Richard, Marlie, and Larry; twin sister, Lorraine Larson; and an infant sister, Elaine Dencklau.

Leroy Delbert Dencklau was born on October 22, 1925, on the family farm near Vincent. He attended rural schools in Colfax. Following his education he worked on the family farm. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII until his honorable discharge. Leroy then returned to the farm in Vincent. On June 26, 1947, he was united in marriage to Lois Dencklau at St. John's Lutheran Church and the couple established their home in Thor. Leroy continued to farm and also owned and operated a corn shelling business. Lois passed away on April 16, 1994. On October 17, 1998, he was united in marriage to Darlene Tjarks and the couple established their home in Fort Dodge. Leroy enjoyed playing cards and going to polka dances. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and St. John's Lutheran Church. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
