PIONEER RESIDENT CLAIMED BY DEATH

Mrs. Evaline Hubbard Succumbs Monday in Daughter's Home
Buried Here Wednesday

Mrs. Evaline Hubbard, 88, pioneer Evansville resident who has made her home in this locality for the past 75 years, died at 7 a.m. Monday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Adelbert Smith, five miles northwest of the city, following a lingering illness. She had been in failing health for the past several years. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Roderick funeral home here with the Rev. J.H. Waste, pastor of the Brooklyn Methodist church, officiating. Burial was made in Maple Hill cemetery with six sons as pallbearers.

Mrs. Hubbard, formerly Miss Evaline Snyder, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Snyder, was born on a farm in Montgomery county, New York, Oct. 3, 1845 and when eight months old came to Wisconsin with her parents settling on a farm four miles south of Janesville where she grew to young womanhood. She attended the Janesville public schools later moving to that city with her parents. One of Mrs. Hubbard's favorite memories was having seen the first trains to Janesville both on the Northwestern and the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul lines. Mrs. Hubbard was married Sept. 20, 1864 to Benjamin W. Hubbard in the same house in which she died. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard settled on a farm two and one-half miles northwest of Evansville which is now owned by Lloyd Hubbard. Mr. Hubbard died Nov. 2, 1904 and the oldest son, Ernest, died on May 12 of this year in Goodell, Ia.

Mrs. Hubbard, who has made her home with her daughter for the past 18 years, attended the Methodist church and was a charter member of the Brooklyn Easter Star. She is survived by six sons, Ralph Hubbard, Fort Atkinson; Clayton Hubbard, Chicago; Clarence Hubbard, Hamilton, Canada; and Osmond, Lloyd and Robert Hubbard, this city, one daughter, Mrs. Adelbert Smith, Brookly; 24 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Among the relatives from out-of-town who were here to attend the services were Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Hubbard and Miss Guinevere Hubbard, Chicago; J.B. Hubbard, Beloit; Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Hubbard, Janesville; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hubbard and family, Fort Atkinson; Mr. Frank Atzinger, Hartland; Mr. and Mrs. Warren Crocker, Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Honore Hubbard, Rockford, Ill.; and Mrs. Ernest Hubbard, Mrs. William Heginger and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Jenison, Goodell, Ia.
