Franz D. "Spreck" Sprecher, 86, of Village Place at Marion, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness. His body was cremated. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements with Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Village Place.

Surviving, besides his wife, Beryl, are a son, Dennis (Berneda) Sprecher of Salt Lake City, Utah; and a daughter. Also surviving are a sister, Luella Mills of Vero Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

He was born Oct. 16, 1915, in Fort Dodge, to Hans and Nellie (Muggins) Sprecher and was married to Beryl Walterick on Oct. 16, 1936, in Clarion. He had been in the printing business in numerous states and had retired from the Mohawk Carpet Co. He was a member and past president of the Lions Club and the Senior Men's Golf Association and served in the U.S. Navy. Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Iowa, 5601 Douglas Ave., Des Moines, IA 50310.
