Margaret Irene Scott Glass, 85, died Monday morning, Aug. 26, 2002, in Cedar Falls Health Care Center, Cedar Falls, following an extended illness. Memorial services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Turner East Funeral Home and Crematory.

Margaret was born April 19, 1917, in Clarion, and was proud to have been the first female drum major in the state of Iowa. Margaret attended Iowa State University and later moved to Cedar Rapids and attended business college. While in Cedar Rapids, she married Robert E. Glass and together they had four children. They lived most of their married life in Cedar Rapids, with a few early years in Watertown, S.D. They later divorced. Margaret was a homemaker when her children were young and later worked as a secretary until her retirement from State Farm Insurance. She continued to work at the Mercy Hospital gift shop. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two sons, Robert (Barbara) of Des Moines and Tim (Dawn) of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Tracy Dvorak of Davenport and Kristie Pannkuk of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Nathan Pannkuk of Anchorage, Alaska, Sarah Pannkuk of Cedar Rapids, Emalee Nemitz (Jim) of Marion, Mari Goerlich (Chris) of Galveston, Texas, Jon Glass (Emily) of St. Paul, Minn., and Jeramie Dvorak and Amber Kochevar (Todd) of Grand Junction, Colo.; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Rebecca Eggleston (Jack) of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Earl Thompson (Maggie) of Rio Verde, Ariz., and Dick Thompson (Rosa) of Bettendorf; a sister-in-law, Jane Scott of Minneapolis, Minn.; and six nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ray A. Scott. Margaret donated her body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine. A memorial fund has been established.
