Barbara LaVanway, Born April 2, 1931, in Clarion, she was the daughter of Martin and Estelene Parris Wise. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Andy Fader, and her stepmother Nettie Wise. She married Wayne Shoemaker in February 1948. She later married Archie William in 1963. They both preceded her in death.

Ms. LaVanway worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in production and then at several convenience stores. She was raised in the Keokuk area until 1974, when she moved to Texas. She returned to the Keokuk and Fort Madison areas in 1992. She attended Crossview Fellowship Church in Keokuk.

Survivors include her longtime companion, John LaVanway of Timpson, Texas; two sons, Andy Shoemaker of Wayland, Mo., and Mike Shoemaker of Argyle; two daughters, Connie Palmer of Keokuk and Jackie Zufall of Burlington; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Larry Wise; two stepsisters, Earlene Barnes of Keokuk and Carlene Shotts of Revere, Mo., and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, stepparents and one brother.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The body will be cremated. The funeral service for Ms. LaVanway will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk, with Sister Lynn Hadsall officiating. Private family burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk at a later date.
