Arif Kenjar, 93, of 147 19th Ave. SW, died Friday, June 28, 2002, in St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Services: 2:45 p.m. today, Turner West Funeral Home. Burial: National Muslim Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Imam Elkhaldy will officiate.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Zehra Kenjar; four sons, Raif and wife Ismeta of Cedar Rapids, Rasim and wife Zineta of Bosnia, Jeff and wife Laurie of Cedar Rapids and John and wife Lynette of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Vasvija Heder and husband Ahmet of Cedar Rapids and Raifa Keric of St. Louis, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Arif was born Sept. 28, 1908, in Bosnia, formerly Yugoslavia. Arif came to the United States with his wife in 1951, moving to Eagle Grove, and settled in Cedar Rapids in 1952. He was pleased to be able to come to this country and particularly to settle in Iowa. He proudly became a United States citizen in 1956.

Arif was employed at Iowa Steel and Iowa Works for over 20 years and was a member of the International Association of Machinists, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Islamic Center of Cedar Rapids. He was a hard worker and proud member of the community. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed. A memorial fund has been established for the Islamic Center of Cedar Rapids.
