Eleanor Cook Thomas, 86, of Mercy Hallmar, died there Wednesday following complications of age. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at St. Matthew's Catholic Church by the Rev. Thomas Currier, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Belmond, Iowa, and the Rev. Ron Friedell, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, State Center, Iowa. Friends may call at Turner Chapel East from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. A luncheon will be served at Kearn Hall at St. Matthew's Catholic Church immediately following the service. Private family burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery following the lunch.

Surviving is a brother, Sutherland Cook and his wife, Josephine, of Cedar Rapids and brother-in-law, William P. Ellwood, also of Cedar Rapids, and four nieces and five nephews, Jerry Yetter, Scott Ellwood, Sutherland Ellwood, John Ellwood, Valissa Cook Berg, Nancy Cook, Jacqueline Cook, Robert S. Cook and Faun Cook Robken. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Valissa Cook Yetter and Doris Cook Ellwood.

She was born Nov. 3, 1909, in Cedar Rapids, to Robert and Faun Hamilton Cook. She married Dr. Stanley Mulholland in 1940. They were later divorced. She then married Dwight Thomas in 1946. They were divorced also. She was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, was an Associate of the Sisters of Mercy and was a member of the Junior League of Cedar Rapids. She was also a founder of the Children's Theater. She attended Carnegie Tech. University in Pittsburgh, Pa., having majored in drama. She had worked over 40 years as an alcohol, nicotine and other drugs counselor. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew's Catholic Church or Mercy Hallmar.
